IHSC conducts laboratory hood testing utilizing the ASHRAE 110-1995 Method of Testing Performance of Laboratory Hoods.

This includes the following tests:

  • Flow visualization using small and large amounts of smoke;
  • Face velocity measurements from the face of the fume hood; and
  • Tracer gas containment using a mannequin.

IHSC uses SF6 (sulfur hexafluoride) as the trace gas and Miran Sapphire as the continuous reading gas detector.
